Languages Accent Speaking, Listening, Writing
Tom Purdie and Shannon Davis struggle with declension and conjugation in Mr. Meador's first year Latin class.
Ach du Iieber! iCaramba! Vale! Sacre bleu!
These were expressions often heard around campus as V. E. 5. students practiced phrases
learned in language classes,
where the aural-oral method
was emphasized this year.
Mr. Carr's French classes made extensive use of the language laboratory, and magazines were read
and discussed in third year German,
a course offered for the first time
and taught by Mr. Jones.
The study of tenses and declensions was made easier for Mr. Meador's Latin students through frequent use of the overhead projector, and
the Spanish classes of Mrs. Knipp and Mr. Childress
were well-drilled in sight translations.
In the higher level courses, reading major works by native authors and writing longer themes
were also stressed so that students
could achieve a broad background in the language.
Mrs. Knipp monitors an unannounced Spanish II verb quiz taken by Tom Huntley, David Russell, Ned Dillon and Jim Smart.
