Bill Nexsen strives to regain his shot-put form at an early practice.
Four returning trackmen, Charlie Merritt, Robert Parsons, Lee Heath, and David Anderson pace themselves in a run around the track. Each shows a different approach to the sport.
New Coach Brings New Spirit To Track Team
Optimistic about the coming season,
the 1970 track team
began practice in the spring
under a new coach, Mr. Edmund Perrow. Practices this year
were less formal than in previous years
and were centered around independent work-outs.
The team received
strength in all departments
from returning lettermen such as
Rip Wilson and Bill Nexsen, who headed the weight squad, and runners like Hamp Shuping in sprints
along with Robert Parsons and Lee Heath
in the distance events.
In field events
Charlie Merritt consistently scored in the high jump,
and Hunt Taylor's pole vaulting also helped in making
a well-rounded team.
