On September 24th the Varsity
Football team played their second game against R.M.A. Kickoff time was at 2:30P .M. on Johnson Field. In the first half,
the Bishops were hurt by II penalties totaling one hundred fifteen yards, in which one
touchdown was called back. The second half was a different story. The Bishops amassed
scoring drives of sixty-three, forty-eight, and fifty-three yards, and received onIy one penalty for five yards.
Quarterback Carter Kemper went seven for thirteen from the air for one hundred and twenty

offense. Bill Aldridge caught two aerials for fifty-seven yards, while Brother Fountain rushed for fifty-six yards on eight carries and one touchdown. Preston Belcher scored the first
touchdown for V.E.S. on a three yard run and added an extra
point. James Magill scored the last touchdown of the day to give the Bishops a 19-6 win over R .M.J\..
Standouts were Jay Irons (inside linebacker) and Warren Toms (defensive tackle).

This year's Junior Varsity
Cross-Country team has started out the season right. The sixteen man team, coached by Mr. Hackett won their first meet by defeating the E. C. Glass jayvees by a score of 26-31. Leading runners in that meet included Randy Meador (second), Bill Burns (fourth), John Vandersyde
(fifth), Mike Wherley (sixth)and David Van Noppen (ninth).
The team has been under- going some grueling practice sessions which have included
long distance runs on Coffee Road and some tough "interval" training on the track.
The half-pint harriers have their next meet on the road
against Fork Union.
