This year's soccer team is looking forward to a productive season. Coaches John Foster and B. K. Mundy are hoping for a Prep League championship this year. Both coaches are anticipating a win in the opener, Blue Ridge School, on December 9. Coach Foster said his team will have a strong offense. He also commented that the defense will be going through a rebuilding season.
This coming season Mr. Hornor will be in the difficult position of coaching a team
graced by only three returning lettermen. Hopes and dreams set aside, Mr. Hornor is forced to face the reality that this will have to be a rebuilding year. Preston Belcher, a senior, is expected to be the primary bright spot, after his team's leading performance last year. Preston broke the old VES pole-vault record, even though he was hampered by an injured wrist. He is looking forward to a strong season and the possibility of All-Prep standing. Doug Dickey, another returning letterman, also had an outstanding season last year. He repeatedly led the team in the 500 yard run, the 60 yard, hurdles and various other races. In recognition of his many fine performances Doug received the
Most Improved Player A ward. Robert Cook is the other returning letterman who should
add needed strength to the distance squad.
