"Marriage ala Mode" was gen-
erally considered the better of
the two plays because of its' wry
humor that even included some
anachronistic profanity, which the students enjoyed, as well as
risque innuendos and badly mangled French dialogue.
After the plays, everyone was taken back to the W estpark Hotel in Rosslyn to unload. The accommodations were comfort- able if not luxurious. From six until nine-thirty they were free to roam in Georgetown. Al- though many places were closed because it was Sunday, most everyone found ways to amuse
themselves. After getting back from Georgetown, the students were confined to the hotel, but it was a big hotel so there were

pranks, but everyone soon learned not to open their doors without just cause.
The next morning the group awoke bright-eyed and bushy tailed, and set out for the group activities of the day. The first visit was to the Library of Congress where they toured the new Madison Wing, which fea- tured varous exhibits concerning
the history of the West. Next was a guided tour of the Capitol building, and although Congress was not in session, the students

On Sunday, March 'l:T, the Junior class, accompanied by Mr. Armstrong, Mr. Elliott, Mr.
Smith, and Mrs. Eade, departed for the annual trip to Washing- ton, D.C. Arriving at 11:00 a.m., the students were free to sight- see for a couple of hours. The
very raw and rainy weather kept most students in the nearby Smithsonian museums and art galleries, but a courageous few ventured out to explore other aspects of the city.
Later in the afternoon, the students were taken to one of two plays. Half of the group went to the Folgers Theatre and watched the play "Marriage ala
Mode," which was an amusing comedy involving a series of marital affairs within a group of English actors and actresses while rehearsing the play "An- thony & Cleopatra." The other half of the group traveled to the historical Ford's Theatre and watc:hed "Mass Appeal," which

After the Capitol, the azwp walked back to "the MaD" where they were to punue their curiosities. Some studenta went back into the mueeuma which they had not hnd a chance to see on Sunday; othere branched to the farther away and less publicized parts of the town such as can be found on 14th Street. By four o'clock, most of the students had seen their fill of Washington and were ready to head back to the "burg."
All in all, this year's Washing- ton trip was very successful. Due largely to the amount of bee time allotted, the students were ~hie to pursue their own personal mterests and activities; and thus, most everyone had an enjoyable learning experience.
