Under the dhertion of Bob Leake, the Varsity Basketbell team has enjoyed a 4-3 record,
2-2 in the conference. Robert Workman leads the team scoring with an average of16.1 points per game, which cur-
rently ranks him third in the Lynchburg distlict, while the•
contributions of Tryg Brody on the court, and his all-around leadership, have proved an
invaluable asset thus far.
Brody's prescence both on and
off the court have provided a spark for the team.
Recently, the team travelled to Richmond for their annual weekend road trip. On Friday, the Bishops trounced the Bull-
dog netmen of Norfolk AI:.a- demy 69-40. As has been the case, a different player do-
minated each of the games. In
this game, Gbenga Akinfe led all scorers with an admirable performance of 22 points and 19 rebounds.
Saturday, a worn-out Bishop team dropped to St. Chris 56-48. Down by 24 points at the end of the first half, V.E.S. dominated
play in the second half and was able to narrow the deficit to 8. Coach Leake feels that the
season so far has been a story of
individual output. 'We have a good ball team, but we're not getting a whole team effort all
the time, one guy seems to dominate a certain game." Mr. Leake does, however, feel that the Richmond trip has showed the team that when they all work together, they can be as
strong as anyone in the Prep League.
