CREATIVITY, FOCUS, AND EXPLORATION
Foundedasaschoolforartists—toeducate boys singing in the cathedral choir—St. Albans remains a community where the arts thrive.
Energetic voices singing in chapel, on-stage sword fights, and paint- splattered canvases attest to the enthusiasm St. Albans boys bring to the arts. In a supportive, single-sex environment, students feel emboldened to discover and develop their particular talents through participating in diverse creative opportunities.
Preparing for performances, whether at school, in Washington National Cathedral, at the Kennedy Center, or on an international trip, students gain self-confidence and discipline while learning to work in a group. On stage and in the studio, students receive a direct and deep understanding of great works of music, literature, and art. They leave St. Albans with an often unexpectedly broad range of stimulating creative experiences and with a lifelong appreciation for both viewing and participating in the arts.
“The theater program gave me
a life beyond the classroom and away from the sports field. I met
St. Albans and National Cathedral School students and teachers I never would have encountered outside the theater. Some of my strongest friendships began during my first show in Form I [seventh grade] and have stayed with me through eleven shows. Creating a piece of art with all my friends gave me
another family at St. Albans.” JAKE DUFFY, ALUMNUS
