Dear Friends,
As Cor Jesu’s mission statement states, we are inspired by the charism of Mother Clelia Merloni, “Sharing the
Love of the Heart of Christ.” At the beginning of the school year, the faculty, staff and students at each grade
level came together to talk about what it means to live this charism intentionally. What does it look like to
share the love of the Heart of Christ? How do I make the love of Christ real for others? Do others experience
God’s love through me? Am I a bridge or an obstacle to God’s love? Each one of us made a commitment to
practice something intentional to share Christ’s mercy and love throughout the school year. As a faith-filled
community, we have also chosen to stop at the end of each day for a time of quiet prayer and reflection on how
we have lived the charism, inviting us to be more mindful of how we experience and share God’s love.
This reflection comes at a very significant time for us as a ministry of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus,
as our congregation anticipates the findings of the Congregation of the Causes of Saints on the beatification
process of our foundress, Mother Clelia Merloni. It also provides a perfect springboard for the Holy Year of
Mercy that Pope Francis has declared. In preparation of the extraordinary jubilee, the school community
participated in special activities throughout September centered around the Church’s “mission to be a witness
6 4 9 of mercy.” During his recent visit to the United States, various classes took time to listen to Pope Francis’
speeches and consider ways to incorporate his messages throughout the week. And, as we do every year,
countless students continue to take part in service opportunities through Service Saturdays, food drives and
monthly service activities.
