This year's track tearn was an except ionally
good one, even though the record doesn't indicate
it. Though S. P. S. lost to larger and stronger tearns
from Milton , Vermont Academy, and Governor
Dummer, it placed second in the triple meet with
K.
U.
A. and ew Hampton , and the high point of
the season was the team's victory over Concord
High - its first dual-meet victory in seven years.
Excellent performances were consistently pro–
vided by Tom McDonald in the mile and two-mile ,
in which he se t the schoo l record; and by rookie
Chris Sowley in the high jump , broad jump , and
220 yard dash . [n our last meet , Chris missed the
School's hjgh jump record by one-quarter of an
inch , with a jump of 5' lOW'.
The team has been blessed with very capable
rookies: Bill Hoehn putting the shot; Bill Reedy ,
Charlie
ichols, and Bob Rettew throwing the
spear; third formers ick Shorter and Jim Boswell
in the sprints; and fourth formers Brock Holmes
and Bob Besse in the sprints and broad jump .
Track is one of the more difficult sport s to
coach, but there are three over-worked coaches,
Messrs. Ball , Kip and Tracy, who d id an excellent
job . The tearn is very gratefu l for their leadership
and inspiration.
