This year's lacrosse team will probably be
remembered as just another good , but not good
enough , St. Paul's team that could not get past
Andover. However, it did accomplish something
in
being the fust S. P. S. varsity team ever to win
more than ten games, and many of them by
impressive scores. Early in the season the team
proved its worth , as it came from behind to defeat
a strong Exeter team in double overtime , and then
rolled its way to a
9-1
rout of Deerfield. After
being given a scare by previously undefeated
Holderness, the team pulled together and pulled
away for a 9-5 win . The team came into the
Andover game with ten wins tucked away , only to
be beaten 6-3 by a hard hjtting, keyed up , and
peedy Blue team.
The defense consisted of Co-Capt. Jim Robin–
son , Sims Wyeth , and Morgan Paulk, with Brian
Everist protecting the nets with performances
nothing short of spectacular. Co-Capt. Frank Rue
led an attack of Nick Sullivan and Bill Pappas,
which broke several records. Rue hinlself estab–
lished a new individual scoring mark of over forty
points. Ben Maguire, Craig MacNamara , and John
Hagerty made up one of the midfields, and Ryck
King, Wart SortweLl, and Don Fearey made up
another one. Barclay MacFadden, Will Whetzel,
and Alec MacLane filled in as the third midfield.
When the team wa s playing up to its potential, it
was virtually untouchable, as evidenced by some
of the scores it ran up , and
it
is too bad that it had
only one chance to beat Andover.
