What had been tabbed as a good hockey team
ran into stiff competition and finished a disap–
pointing season with a subpar 4 - 13 slate. After a
5 - 2 win over strong Concord High, the team
lapsed into a half a season of poor hockey. Then,
the pucksters lost a heartbreaking game to Exeter
in sudden death overtime, and dropped a well
played 3 - 2 game to powerful Browne and
Nichols. The squad played amazingly in an exci–
ting 3 - I loss to the best Yale Frosh squad in
history , for what has been called the highpoint of
a disappointing season .
Despite the poor record, first year coach Mr.
Chase and captain Don Feary led inspired drills
throughout the year, and the improvement in
several players was indicative of the sustained
spirit of the team. The Sixth Form leadership did
not falter - a tribu te to the nine seniors on the
squad.
That the team was capable of good hockey was
shown in the Yale , Andover , and KUA games, but
the ability to win the close game or to pull off the
big upset always seemed lacking. Unfortunately ,
the toughest part of the schedule came in the
second half of the season when the team was
playing its best hockey , and all the easy games had
slipped by earlier in the year.
