Cross country practice was started on Tuesday, October 4th, with :Mr. Harris as coach.
October 8th the long looked for dance took place, a great success. It was enjoyed by a large number of the boys and teachel1! of the School and there was no scarcity of good dancers of the opposite sex.
Bishop Jett and Mr. Gwathmey made us a visit on the lOth, 111r. Gwathmey staying over until the next day. As might be expected, every one enjoyed seeing them very much.
On tbe 18th of October 111r. Harris took a week-end trip to Richmond, the object of which must have been to get away from the monotony of teaching.
On October 21st 1\1r. Gwathmey paid us another visit and
Dr. Maphis came with him.
The next day our former Head }faster, Mr. Nelson, re-
turned for a brief-visit, and was gladly received.
On the 25th Bishop Jett came out for a short visit, which
we all wished could have been longer.
On November 1st our old friend, Royall Smithey, left school. Royall had been with us for several years and we regretted very much to see him go.
. On Saturday, the 12th, a large number of boys journeyed to Charlottesville and saw our game with Woodberry Forest and the Va.-W. Va. game. This is only one of several re- markable opportunities which we have been given of seeing some of the large football games. On Saturday, the 15th of
October, a good many of the boys went to Lexington and saw
