berry Forest aggregation was our next opponent. Although we lost by the score of 7-G, the outcome was gratifying and the Orange and Black eleven was conscious that it had been throng_!l a real game of football. The last game, that of November 10th, was the one surprise of the season. We lost to Lynchburg High School in a gnwlling and hard-fought contest. Our defeat was attributed partly to over-confidence
and partly to over-training. The score, 6-0, can not be used to compare the ability of the teams, since the relative seasons of the two schools show that we bad the superior team. Be that as it may, we may well be proud of our foot- ball team of 1921, since it not only won the greater part of its games, but also increased the reputation of the School and upheld.the school's n3.Ule for good, clean, and spirited
playing.

We opened our football season with a game against Char- lottesville High School on Lambeth Field. It was a success- ful opening, as we downed our opponents by the score of 13-0. The contest was interesting throughout and the out- come was in doubt up to the final blowing of the whistle.
We.made our first touchdown in the first quarter when Terry advanced the ball from the middle of the field to Char- lottesville's ten-yard line and Loth plunged through the line
.for the goal. Our final touchdown came in the second quar- ter when an attempted 1mnt by Charlot.tesville was blocked and Duke recovered the ball behind the line.
The consistent firmness which our line displayed was ac- countable for the faiture of the High School backs to break through. The contest was featured by long end runs by Loth and Terry, while the work of J\faddux at tackle was very
good.
