On January 13th, we opened our basketball season by defeating the Randolph-Macon Academy quintet by the score of 40-21. The score would ha,·e been much closer had the visitors been able to shoot 'vith greater accuracy during the first half. Their floor work was of high order and it must be admitted that they passed "rings" around us for a while.
We got off to a flying start and had scored ten points b& fore R.-M. A. knew what it was all about. One field goal during the entire first half was all that the visitors could get, compared to our own twenty points. This lead proved to boa safe one, for though the Bedford quint found themselves in tho next period, they ·were never able to come anywhere near obtaining the lead. Their work in this half was very good and we were hard pushed to keep pace with them.
Koonce, the Academy's fast forward, played in stellar fashion, while Mead, Goldsmith, and Terry did most of our scoring.
