In tho early part of Decemb01·, j nsl a few weeks after the close of the football campaign, basketball practice began. An unusual number of candidntes reported for work under Coaches Kinnear and Branham. Captain Lee had with him but two men f1·om last year's team, Tony aud Mend. With
these three as a. nucleus and the large amount of new waterinl, prospects seemed great for a very successful season. Previous to the Christmas holidays the coaches drilled their charges mainly in dribbling, passing, and shooting. On Janunry 4th,,
practice was renewed in earnest.
Two days later w-e indulged in a practice game with the
Lynchburg College quintet. We were defeated, 36 to 23, but it must be owned that we threw n scat·e into the Hornets. Our good showing against the Collegians crone as n surprise,
and indicated very visibly that om 1023 team was an ag-
gregation from which much could be expected. •
