The 1948 tennis ~earn come through with a mediocre season, six defeats against a lone victory. The bright spot was a win over Fishburne, 3-2.
'48 may be considered successful in comparison with '47, when V. E. S. went down 7-0 in each match. '48 was u different story with Virginia Episco pal taking points against all excep~ Stanton and St. Christopher's power- ful squads. The second Lynchburg College J. V. game was much closer tha n the score indicated with most matches running into three sets.

Fishburne Runs Ahead
Fishburne MiIitary Academy's I racksters out classed the Bishops 69 to 48 on a slightly wet track. The Bi s h o p s , l a c k i n g p o w e r i n t h e f i e l d events, failed to equal the speed of Gilcreth and Swindal of Fishburne, who together took four first places in the track events. First places for ~he Bishops went to Bill Jackson in the 220 yard dash, Elliott Brax ton in the pole vaulting, Paul Taylor in the high jump, and Gene Cornett ~hrowing the javelin. All the times were comparatively slow, due to ~he wet track.
