Miller Game
The Bishops opened the gridiron season with a fast moving eleven that did everything but push Miller School back to Charlottesville. A t the final gun the Bishops led the way 37-0 for the biggest margin scored against any Y. E. S. football opponent in the last three years. Paced by their cap- tain, hard charging, dead-eye passer Hal Jackson, QB on last year's elev-
en, and Buck Nutt, capable reserve of last season, the Bishops racked up fif- teen first downs to Miller's five. In the first minutes of the game, Bob White, last season's hard hitting left tackle, now in the backfield, inter- cepted a pass on the 13-yard line and ran it into the end zone for the Bish- op's first tally of the season. Webb Maddux, three-year letterman and dangerous right guard, made the only conversion of the day, running the score to 7-0. The remainder of the first period was occupied by on ex- change of punts. After the Bish?ps had changed goal lines, the big Gar- net and White eleven started a drive downfield that was climaxed by Cap- tain Jackson carrying the leather around right end for marker No. 2.
Jackson then opened an air attack which carried the ball 43 yards for the third score about half-way through the second quarter. Then Jackson let loose with a deadly pass to fleet- footed end Brown Finch which was good for 30 yards and T. D. No. 3. The half ended with the score 19-0.
Second Half. - The Bishops took over again and, after punting to the Miller 20-yard line, recovered a Rich- erson fumble on the first play. Jock- son, Nutt and Bradley pounded the Miller line until they were in striking distance. Buck Nutt, charging little back, piled through from the 3-yard line to make the count 25-0. Jackson uncorked his passing arm for the sec- ond aerial T. D. of the day when again he connected with Finch from the 25-yord line to pile the score even higher against Miller. Tommy Has- sard RE, a newcomer to the Bishop's squad, made it No. 6 as he took a pass from Jackson on the 7-yard line and neatly carried it in the end zone, making the final tally 37-0.
Coaches Johnston and Galliford kept the substitutes going strong through the entire contest. By using a defensive and offensive line John-
ston kept Miller School on the run from the opening whistle to the final gun.
Outstanding work on the Y. E. S. line was done by Maddux, Harris, Thomas and Watts.
New Policy
The exchange column up to this year has been merely a list of ac- knowledged receipts of exchanges during the month. This year we ex- pect to make it a more interesting and widely read column.
We have received, so far:
The High Times, E. C. Glass High School. Lynchburg, Ya.
The Bee Line, Brookville High School.
The Pigtail, South Kent School, South Kent, Conn.
The Trinity Tripod, Trinity College, Hartford, Conn.
Many at Y. E. S. are prone to com- plain about having to~ be "off dorm" by 7:25 A. M. From an article in a recent issue of the High Times (E. C. G lass High School) we quote thisJos- sage: "First bugle was sounde at 5:20 in the morn ing. Ten minutes were given to allow the men to dress, make up the bunks, wash their faces, brush their teeth and fall in to go to chow." This passage was taken from the article entitled, "One Hundred- fifty Marine Reserves Train at Camp Lejeune in August." Certainly, with twenty-five minutes before breakfast, there's no room for complaint on our part.
