Minutes of Alumni Organization Meeting
Sixty-three V. E. S. alumni met in the school dining room at one o'clock on Saturday, October 21, 1950. After lunch Dr. Barton gave a welcome to those present. Every alumnus wa~ given an identification tag which was his ticket for the game. Mr. Gannaway spoke b riefly on what had been done. He said he had sent out
I,189 letters and followed them with an equal number of double postcards for replies. Four hundred seventy were returned with sixty-three ac- cepting.
Blakey Walker, '36, was appointed temporary chairman. He told of some of the aims of the organization: alumni to become more closely iden- tified with the school: set up an en- dowment fund for the purpose of assisting some sons of alumni to at- tend V. E. S.: to become more in- terested in trying to get more good boys to attend V. E. S. He read the constitution which ha d been pro- posed by the Lynchburg Chapter and it was adopted with a few minor changes, such as name and area in- volved. The Lynchburg Chapter had met several times and p roposed the following slate of officers: President, John Ellison Loth, '22, of Waynes- boro, Virginia: vice-president, J. Brown Farinholt, '27, G!oucester, Vir- ginia; secretary, J. W . Gannaway (still in tv1ath.): treasurer, Robert A. Magill, Jr., '42, Lynchburg, Virginia. All were immediately accepted by those present.
