JOY IN MUDVILLE
Defeat by the Tigers
A heavier Woodberry Forest foot- ball team with a talented backfield struck hard and fa st here yesterday to run roughshod over Virginia Epis- copal School 26-0.
It was V. E. S.' first loss of the sea- son and a decisive one before a homecoming day crowd of more than 500 spectators.
All of the Woodberry touchdowns came in the first half with Quaterback Ed Powe setting up two and passing for one other. Early in the first period Ned Hardison raced 37 yards around
eft end for a touchdown to start the v's'tors on the road to victory. He was aided in his run by some beauti- ful downfield blocking on the part of h's teammates.
Powe tossed a pitchout to Halfback Chuck Bourland, minutes later, and the speedy broken-field runner raced around the left side of the Bishop for- ward wall 29 yards for the six pointer. Robert Heilig missed his first two at- tempted placements.
In the second quarter another pitchout-Powe to Heilig-for a 60 yard touchdown b e f o r e t h e l i t t l e quarterback passed to Hardison for a 40-yard score. Heilig converted after both and the scoring was over. The one bright spot for V. E. S. alum-
.was the fine play of Duke Taliaferro and Doug Van Noppen. Van Noppen hewed fine l e a d e r s h i p d u r i n g t h e game and was easily the offensive tar with his passing. However, the nning of Fullback Horace Roy also
ood out of the Bishop offensive.

SPORTS
Several times the aerials of Van Noppen would carry the Bishops deep into the visitors' territory, only to have Woodberry's capable forward wall start breaking through and throwing the passer or runner behind the line of scrimmage.
The second half saw a tired, crip- pled, but dead game V. E. S. team take the field and hold the mighty W oodberry squad scoreless. The Bishop line would dig in and time and time again repelling the running at- tack of the opposition when its goal was threatened.
