F. M. A. Wins 33-6
Fishburne Military Academy handed the Bishops their fourth loss of the season by a 33-6 score. Led by their quarterback Gene Riggle and half- back Harold Morris, the Cadets were in command nearly all the way. The soggy field seemed not to interfere with their attack, as Morris scored three times and Riggle once. The other Fishburne tally came on a pass.
It took only a few plays for the cadets to score after receiving the opening kickoff. Morris plunged over from three yards out. The Bishops looked like they were going to make it a day for them os they completed a long pass from Sonny Peirson to Bradsher. But here the heavier and more experienced Fishburne line broke through several times to halt the drive. As soon as the cadets got the ball again they moved to their sec- ond score, although slowed up by several penalties. Morris broke in the clear on the Bishop 35 and went all the way again to pay dirt. The third T.D. came with Riggle passing to McDougle from ten yards out. Powell missed his first P.A.T. for the day, and Fishburne left the field at halftime holding a 20-0 advantage.
In the third quarter, the cadets continued their scoring when Morris waded through a host of tacklers and romped 25 yards to their fourth touchdown. Steele intercepted a Bishop pass to start the drive. The last score came when the cadets took over possession of the ball on the V.E.S. 30. Riggle, starting around end, reversed his field and the big quarterback ron 30 yards for the 6 points.
The day was not entirely a failure though. The Bishops were in there scraping every minute, even though greatly outweighed. This was evi- dent when Johnny Hunt recovered a fumble on the midfield stripe. After Joe Barber slashed off 15 yards to th.e 35, Peirson tossed to Ed Hotchkiss for a first down to the 25. Another Joe Barber run and a second pass from Peirson to Hotchkiss brought the boll to the four. Fishburne hadn't been scored upon this season by o Prep or high school foe, so at this point the cadets' first stringers were inserted. But this couldn't stop the "hepped up'' Bishop attack. Barber, putting his head down, drove on for
the only, but very important, V.E.S. tally. It was another loss, but there
was that measure of consolation. Fishburne ...... 14 b 7 b--33
E.H.S. came back to score on a reverse from the 30. Minutes later, fullback Dick Cozart intercepted o V.E.S. pass and ran for 20 yards. Two plays later, Cozart smashed over from the two for the third high school
tally. Later Pen Sandridge scored on an end sweep froro1 the three to make the score 27-0.
Early in the third quarter, Carter of E.H.S. intercepted a Bishop pass and raced 45 yards for the score.
Then halfback George Bruce took a pitchout and passed to end Grana- kos for the sixth E.H.S. touchdown.
Early in the fourth period, the Bis- hops came roaring back, Peirson set- ting up Joe Barber's score with a 40- yard pass to Blair Farinholt to the 15.
Merry booted a field goal after that to make the score 50-6, E.H.S. Ed Hotchkiss set up the second Bishop TD with a 30-yard run, and
Bob Grubb scored from the one.
On the kickoff following the score, Anderson raced 70 yards for the final
