Eugene Bowers Grant, Jr.
From the metropolis of Jackson, N. C., "Goo Goo" Grant pulled in last year to take over the school with his sly phrases (and he has some sharp ones) and his willingness to work.
. He played 130 Pound football and got a real kick out of being a hero last year. He studied hard during the winter to maintain his study out aver- ages, which he has kept consistently, but when spring came the lower field became his domain. He worked hard at pole vaulting and showed promise.
Last summer Grant was pro at a swank country club at Nags Head, a hard job that required plenty of skill.
This year, Gene's last, at V. E. S., he contributed a lot to the football team for his work on defense and was one of the best tackles. He was chosen manager of the basketball team last winter and did a good job, earning his letter and an opportunity i·o join the V Club, where he was we!comed.
Because of a slight ailment which he ucquired over spring vacation, his sports have been cut down, but he does go out and play a little tennis and he's a good man to have on the television team.
We'll be without him next year, but he'll be in good hands as Caro- lina opens its gates to him.
Robert Clayton Gibson
Clearinq the dust from the schools
Honor Roll, Gibson began his V. E. S. career last year. He worked hard and became one of the scholastic leaders in the school.
He lctiered in J. V. football and then when spring came around man- aged J. V. baseball.
Th is year he has continued his Honor Roll average with senior sub- jects. He lettered again in J. V. football where he was a good ground gainer at halfback. During the winter "Gib ' was busy taking driving les- sons, but despite casualties in the process, he took time out to play some J. V. basketball.
The spring brought its honors to Kraut." Not only was he chosen manager of the varsity baseball team, but he also had the title of "Sugar
Lips ' bestowed on him.
He has also contributed a lot to the G. A. A. by helping run Gu's delicatessen.
Some of his time has been spent doing work for the Meteor. He has also contributed much as a tenor in the choir.
After he completes V. E. S., Gabriel's trumpet calls him down to Carolina where he intends to study all the time!!?
Peter Eug ene W ebb
This year draws the curtain on the five years that Pete has been coming out to V. E. S. in his shiny ' Caddie." He has been unusually active as a day student and has participated in much of the school's extracurricular program.
His first year he played 130 Pound football and in the winter lettered in 13 and Under basketball. He clipped off study cut averages his first month and has been on the honor roll often
since then.
He played IS and Under basket-
ball his second year and was a top third baseman for the J. V.'s in the spring. His third year he repeated his basl.etball and baseball perform- ances and also played on the Bishops' tennis team.
Last winter Pete and " Head" car- ried the IS and Under to a great season under the di rection of Coach Cram:. He CE'ntered most of his at- tention on tennis in the spring, but lettered in J. V. baseball again.
This year he was a letterman in J. V. basketball and is playing fourth man on the tennis team.
When June comes, Pete will leave V. E. S. with a record of which he can indeed be proud (and memories of a fabulous ca•eer in Latin). Best of luck at U. Va.
