gained I I at right tackle and 12 at loft end to set the Bishop fans howl- ing again. However the drive ended here and Nash booted the first of 4 second half punts to the E. H. S. 25. White, Midyette and Dashiell combined to pick up a first down but the Bishops hefd again and E. H. S. punted to Cunningham on the V. E. S. 21. Hodges and Joslyn combined to gain 6 yards in 3 plays and again Nash punted, this time to the E. H. S. 40. Nelson Showalter ended the next E. H. S. drive with a leaping inter- ception of Caperton's pass on the V. E. S. 35. Quarter ended with V. E. S. still ahead 21-7.
Hodges ran 3 time for 7 yards and Nash punted as the Bishops were content to stall for time and let the defense do the work. This time the Maroons were not to be denied and drove 42 yards for a TD in 8 plays with Midyette scoring from the 7. Dover's kick was wide as cheers again rang from the V. E. S. side. This was an all important point that left E.H.S. 8 points behind, still needing 2
touchdowns to get back into the game. The Bishops could still afford to play it safe.
Saunders onside kick was grabbed by big Jim Shanklin on the 42 and he returned to the 49. Hodges and Kramer failed to gain and the Bishops took a chance with a long jump pass that was intercepted by E. H. S. on their 35. E. H. S. moved up field but gambled on a 4th down run and lost,
with Dashiell being stopped a yard short on the V. E. S. 44.
Bill Ramsey gained I at righi tackle and Horton gained I at left tackle. Ramsey lost I on a pitchout.
Nash's kick was fumbled on the 25 and Penn Joslyn jumped on the ball to sew up the game. With the clock rolling merrily along the Bishops hit the line with 3 QB sneaks, by Kramer and Cunningham. F i n a I whistle sounded and V. E. S. was victorious 21-13.
The defensive left side, with Kramer, Wood, Skellie Hunt and Jim
Shanklin, played a great part in stopping the sweep play. AI Butler, a I 53 pound stalwart playing head on a 205 pound center, was the big man in stopping Midyette on the draw play. Penn Joslyn, left line- backer was all over the field with vicious tackles . Bro. McClain came up with two ear splitting tackles on handoff plays and played a heads up game all the way. John Lee, play- ing head on Episcopal's great tackle, Hilliard, did a good job of rushing the passer. Nelson Showalter at weak- side end turned several reverses into shambles, and was a vicious tackler. Lloyd Horton turned every play to
ning later on was as determined as any V. E. S. back ever. Johnny Kram- er's quarterbacking was great and his pass to Horton put V. E. S. in the money. The other backs ran hard and gained valuable yardage. Skip Rawls looked great in his few chances at left halfback. The offense line of Nash, Dave Wilson, AI Butler, Showa lter, Marc Hulswit, Hunt, Shanklin, and Wood stood up fine against the big- ger Maroons. And Chico Groome did his usual good job on covering punts. Sandy Cunningham did great relief work on offense and defense.

the right inside and did a fine job on pass defense. Bill Davidson played his best game of the year at safety and made sure we were not hurt by the long pass. This was the defensive team. Everyone stood out.
On offense, Dempsey Hodges has to be the star. His 63 yard scoring dash on the 2nd play from scrim- mage was a thing of beauty. His run-
