V. E. S. accomplished what no other team had been able to do in five years by squeaking by Boons- boro 52-50 on its home court.
The win required about 36 minutes of play including an overtime and a "sudden death, basket or bust, free- for· all!"

V. E. S. WHIP BEES IN FREE SCORING GAME 77-68
The Bishops jumped to a 27-16 lead due to the fast-break and sterling shots of Craighill, at the first quarter and from there staved off a deter- mined Brookville attack to win 77-68. The courtmen from V. E. S. hit a phenomenal 58% of their shots in the first half to lead 43-28. In desperation Brook v i II e 'double teamed" Craighill and closed the gap to 56-54 in favor of V. E. S. Three quick jump shots shot by Ross early in the last quarter helped to lessen the tension as they outlasted the Brookville five down to the wire. Cap- tain Craighill hit for 30 points. Wil- son was next with 14. The basket must have contained a magnet as the Bishops hit 51% of their shots. All five of the starters hit in the double figures.
V,E.S. GFPT
Boonsboro took an early 16-10 lead
in the first quarter much to the de-
light of the partisan crowd. But the
Bishops sliced the lead to one point
28-27 at the half. Both teams fought
right down to the wire but when the Merritt, g final gun went off the score was tied Torrence, g 46-46 sending the game into an over- Vest,g time. Craighill put in a lay-up and
Shanklin a hook, but Boonsboro tied
the game again sending a game into
a "sudden death" playoff. Boons-
boro got the all-important "tap" but
Craighill ended the home-team 's
frustration by neatly stealing the ball and with five men on his back plunked it through the net for a 52-50 win.
This was truly a sweet one to win. Craighill was high man for V. E. S. with 19.

V. E. S. 25 - Miller School 36
The J. V.'s travelled to Miller School
and although they lost, they played a very fine game. The game was a very close nip and tuck battle and it was anybody's game up to the last second. Simpson was high scorer with seven while Brewer and Allen got six points each.
Playing a very fine game along with these three were Ted W ebb and

When Miller School came to V. E. S. for the second basketball game with the J. V.'s, they found themselves on the short end of the score as the J. V.'s got sweet revenge for the 30-25 licking they received at Miller.
Simpson was the game's high scorer with ten, followed by Allen with seven points. High for Miller School was Lyons' with seven points.

V. E. S. 44 - Madrid Bulls 38
When Saturday rolled around it was announced that missing from the Mid-Winter's festivities would be the gome between V. E. S. and the A. M. A. J. V.'s. But then to save the day, the Bulls decided that they would give everyone a break and furnish the opposition for the J. V.'s.
Led by "Smoothie" Aldred and "Nose" Darden, who got seven points and a crack at a foul shot respective- ly, the Bulls were beaten by a bull as Arch Allen for the J. V.'s poured in twenty points.
