THE LANGHORNE MEMORIAL CHAPEL
In 1916, when the doors of Vir- g·n·a Episcopal School were first peoed, it was found that there was house of worship in which the stu- e~+s could meet. Seeing this need, e fot~er of one of our early stu- de~ts proposed that a school chapel be bui't. Through the benevolence and generosity of Chiswell Dabney Langhorne the building of the Lang- orne Memorial Chapel was made poss'ble, and for forty years, this b ·di,g has adequately served the
e'g'ous needs of the students.
" t~e chapel, services are held a''y throughout the school year. D~.ring the week, Morning Prayer is eld before classes, and on Sundays are held Holy Communion, Morning Prayer with a sermon by either the Headmoster o r t h e C h a p l a i n , a n d Evening Prayer. In the services, stu- ents who were once shy and timid at home in their own churches learn o sing the hymns and say the re-
sponses with new meaning and under- tanding. The school has always taken g•ea• pride in the way that the stu- oer1s participate in the chapel serv-
·ganist, usually a talented student, and the choir are continually- sacri- t.·"g their time for practice and
ehearsa ls.
~he doors of the chapel are always cpen to friends and outsiders. Visi- '"rs are olways welcome and a stand- ··g invitation is maintained for those W'IO wish to worship with us. The popd~~rity of the chapel is seen by t e many gifts and contributions it
