W'th the end of the 1964 football ~on q u i c k l y n e a r i n g , t h e f i g h t i n ' Bshops surely have not established ~ fine won-lost record. Although the
exact reason for this is not really leiJ•, one thing is evident; the record ~oes not present an accurate judg-
"'ent of the team's skill.
At the beginning of the season,
Coach Lee stated that this year's oster was one of the strongest in rve years. After the two brilliant v dories over Fishburne Military School and strong Carolina Military Academy, it looked as though his words would be reality. But then the Bishops lost to Norfolk Academy in a geme played on a muddy field; c"rneying to Christchurch they were t ~r ned back again. Optimism mounted as the underdogged V. E. S. learn fought Collegiate School t o ~ 20-20 tie at Homecoming, but the Bs~ops faltered under long runs of Woodberry Forest and the big line
of Massanutten Military Academy. Some of the boys blame defeat on long and tiresome bus rides or cfsogreeable weather. Others feel hot the Bishops got too "cockey" !lfter their tremendous win over C.M.A.; but most think the same old Y. E. S. luck" has got us in its grip ~gain. For whatever reason we have suffered these losses, one fact looms ~igh-not an ounce of spirit has been
ost from the team. In the one re- moining game t h e Bishop warriors will strive to show their strength.

red to as the "Lee T." The Bishops' defense was also outstanding as they scored 4 points on two safeties and held Fishburne to three first downs and 67 yards total offense.
Co-captain Bobby Watts was the V. E. S. leader as he gained 80 yards rushing and made numerous tackles from his line-backing position. John Edwards and Lawson Turner, the Bishops ' halfbacks, quickly hit t h e Fishburne defensive line for any number of yards every play.
In the second quarter, Edwards scored. This brought the score to 8-0. V. E. S. scored on a safety in the third period and again on a quarter- back sneak in the fourth period. Watts ran for the extra point.
Ham Myers, the V. E. S. quarter- back, directed the Bishops eleven beautifully the entire game. V. E. S.'s punter Hamp Martin had a spectacu- lar day as he averaged 39.3 yards per punt. His worst punt went for 26 yards and rolled out on the Caison seven.
Fishburne's closest scoring threat was +warted on t h e 34 yard line with a pass interception by linebacker AI Williams.
Overall the game was called a great team effort by Coach Lee.
BISHOPS UPSET STRONG C. M.A., 13-7
V. E. S. defeated Carolina Military Academy 13-7, on October 10, for its second victory of the season.
The Bishops spent most of the first half on defense trying to stop C.M.A. and runner Mike Granado, but the second quarter they scored on a two yard plunge by Granado. He also converted the extra point.
In the third period, Bobby Watts scored the first touchdown for the Bishops with a five yard run that cap- p e d a 55 y a r d march in which he was the key ball carrier. The speedy Lynchburg fullback raced 15, 12, and
18 yards before he completed the march with tho score. Carlyle White caught a poss to make the point after good, and to tie the game.
A C.M.A. pass intercepted by White on his own 45 enabled the Bishops to start another drive. Ham Myers stuck to the air and kept the b a l l g o i n g w i t h a 3 0 - y a r d pa~s t o sophomore back John Edwards who

W h i l e V . E . S . h a s h a d a n fortunate time in football, the cross country teams seems to be faring very well. Hargrave Miiltary Acad- emy has been the only team to de- feat the Bishop harriers. Jim Hotel- ling has broken a lmost every record in his midst; and has his performance been limited to V. E. S. meets. At Winston Salem, N. C., Jim won a meet in which over 50 North Caro- lina high schools were competing. Sophomore Linwood Bolles and sen- iors George Harris and Mike Age- lasto have provided the important support that has resulted in nine V. E. S. victories.

BISHOPS RAP F. M. A. IN OPENER
The Virginia Episcopal School var- sity football team started off a new season this year with a new formation and a brand new attitude. They entered their first game with con- fidence and a distinct desire to win. As a result they swamped Fishburne Military Academy 17-0. The score could have easily been 45-0 for the Bishops were stopped four times in- side the twenty yard line by three intercepted passes and a fumble.
