MASSANUITEN OUTSCORES V. E. S.
A strong team from Massanutten Military defeated the Bishops on Johnson Field, November 7. The Bishop offensive was led on the turf by t h e running o f fullbock Bobby Watts and in the air by the passing team of Carlyle White and Ham Myers. White caught passes from the Bishop quarterback for 45 yards and a touchdown play for 29 yards in the second quarter. The other Bishop score was made in the third quarter by Watts, but the extra point at- tempts for both failed. John Edwards grabbed a pass from Myers and dashed for 66 yards deep in the enemy territory, but the drive fell
short of its objective.
Massanutten started with a strong offensive and scored twice in the first quarter with one successful con- version. The big Military eleven again scored in each of ihe final two quarters, but failed to run across the extra points, earning a 25-12 vic- tory over the ill-starred Bishops.
SAINTS EDGE BISHOPS
The Bishops finished their season with a game at St. Christophers in Richmond. The Saints scored late in the second quarter on a 79 yard break-away jaunt by their full back John Zaharov. The extra point kick failed and at the half time the Bishops were behind 6-0. In the third quarter a hard fought battle by half-back Hugh Morrison's spec- tacular running and end Carlyle White's pass receiving found the Bishops on the 17 yard line of ~he Soints. Early in the fourth quarter, full-back Bobby Watts led the Bishops to the one yard line but failed to score because of an off-side penalty. The Bishops were caught off guord again and allowed the Saints to drive to the I I yard line through two well executed plays by quarterback Hugh Powell. At the II, Hugh Powell passed t o halfback Frank Easterly for the touchdown. The PAT was good and the Saints led 13-0. The Bishops were not able to get into Saint territory again but did keep the ball for the remainder of the game.
