Progress In Technique, Planning Mark Vestige
Tommy Thomson, who developed and printed all of this year's annual pictures and who took a number of them, changes film before a mirror. His excellent photography adds much to the Vestige.
Editor-in-chief Taylor Putney, who designed most of the layouts and solved most of the problems and Co-Editor Steve Johnson, who assisted invaluably in all areas, consult with Mr. Hopkins.
In assembling this year's Vestige,
the annual staff endeavored to alter the style
of the book and to eliminate the problems
of organization and planning which had in past years proved a hindrance.
With the enthusiastic participation of faculty members, Mr. Jones and Mr. Childress,
and the outside coaching of Mr. Hopkins,
a former advisor of V.E.S. annuals,
the staff put together a work
which included such major changes as the introduction of unjustified type styles, informal senior shots,
and the positioning of all underclassmen
in one separate section.
Although these mechanical innovations represented substantial advancement, improvements in other areas,
particularly organization and planning,
were also brought about.
Meetings were held in early September,
and through the perseverance of every member on the staff, the majority of which
had never been involved in annual production, the 1969-70 Vestige was carefully planned, emphasis being placed on group effort
and industrious cooperation.
