American Studies Adds Excitement For Juniors
It is essential to study literature in order to gain a perceptive knowledge of history, for by this method, one can better relate events and sentiments of the past to those of today.
In view of this fact, an attempt to incorporate American literature and history into a cohesive arrangement was introduced this year with an American Studies course, headed by Messrs. Scholl and Jobe. While Mr. Scholl taught American literature, Mr. Jobe supplemented with the corresponding period in history. Seven recommended students from the junior class took the two period course in which they were urged to participate in discussions rather than be subjected to lecture. Depending upon the success of this experimental course, American Studies hopefully will be available to all juniors in future years.
The small class size and seminar format enable the students actively to take part in group discussions.
Back in class Marvin Barnard reiterates a timely political viewpoint that has aroused much widespread controversy.
