Cross Country Tearn Has Successful Season
One of the best records in recent years was posted this fall by the Varsity Cross Country team, coached by the Reverend Gordon Allen, and there were several reasons for this fine showing. The co-captains, seniors Robert Parsons and David Bland, provided inspiring leadership for the others to emulate, and they encouraged the returning members of the team, including Same Guerin, Lee Heath, Steve Johnson, Braxton Gillam and Doug Hebard to return before the start of school to get in several extra days of practice. New members, Jim Kluttz, Bill White, and Spencer Morten constantly pushed the old boys to work even harder. The season's high points came with an upset over an undefeated Christchurch team at Homecoming, and a victory over the Lynchburg College freshmen. With all but three runners returning, next year's team should be even better.
Co-captain and number one runner Robert Parsons played a large part in the team's successful showing this season.
Y's on their sweatshirts and determination on their faces, varsity cross country runners Braxton Gillam, Lee Heath, Sam Guerin, David Bland, and Robert Parsons race off to an early start.
