Varsity Baseball: Experimentation, Innovation
Hurt by the loss of many lettermen, the Varsity Baseball team faced a struggling period of experimentation and innovation before the season's start. The Bishops' strategy was centered around four experienced players' holding key positions in the lineup, and these four players were primary in the plans of Coaches Goggin and Lynch for a successful season. Catcher Allen Hamblen, first baseman Rhae Adams, and pitchers Bobby McKenna and Caull Exum gave Goggin and Lynch the hope that after constructing a firm and reliable base, new boys Billy Barnes and David and Michael Basnight, could provide additional strength in other areas. The coaches looked forward to a winning season, realizing that their chances depended on the success of these strategies.
