The final record of 4-7 is in no
wa~ indicative of this year's La- crosse season. The Varsity stick· men had many games with top ranked teams which resulted in
losses by one or two point
•
margms.
The Varsity Lacrosse team de-
feated Blue Ridge 6-5 in a closely contended match. The Bishops lost to North Cross in their first meeting 8-5, but avenged this loss by defeating them 11-5 on VES turf. The loss to Woodberry was a tough one; yet the Tigers only1won by two goals. Another tough loss was against Collegiate where the Bishops lost by one
goal which was scored in the final minute of the game.
The highlight at the end of the season was a 9.() trouncing of Fork Union. Tommy Battle had his first shut out of the year. The sw:ing attack in the final game
of the season was 1~ by Ashby Watts with 4 go•ls. The win was
a fitting way for the Varsity stickmen to end their season.

At the end of April, the Var·
sity sluggers went up against a strong St. Chris team in a double header. St. Chris, number one in the Prep League, was challenged in two close games. Despite two close losses, the first, 4·1, and the second, 4-3, there were several highlights. In the first, Walter Jones scattered four hits, and struck out eight. In the second, Reynolds pitched well scattering five hits. Scooter Harris had two
hits and one RBI.
Trinity was another close
game. Even though the Bishops lost, 11-15, there were five people with two hits: Hines, Lacy, Harris, W. Morton, and Whitehead,
The next game was against Holy Cross. Going against three previous losses, the sluggers beat Holy Cross, ~- Skipper
Hines made his.first start tering 6 hits aud striking out 8•. Scooter Harris aud Charles Rus-
sell both drove in two runs. In another doubleheader, the Bishops split with Heritage tak-
ing the second game. In the first, the Bishops lost 5-2. Skipper Hines was one strike away from
.victory. He scattered fire and struck out five. In the second the Bishops won 5-4. Allan and Wade Morton aud Scooter Harris had
two hits apiece. One of Harris' was a two run triple. David Reynolds was the winning pitch-
er.
In the most recent g•me the
sluggers cremated Bhle Ridge
19-8. Skipper Hines and Scooter Harris had 4 hits apiece; 4 RBI's and 5 RBI's respectively. Wade Morton had 3 bits and 3 RBI's
and Walter Jones had two hits, one which was a triple. Hines relieved Jones and went four scoreless innnings and ended up
allowing only one hit.
At the · present time, the
Varsity sluggers are 2-6 in the Prep I eague aud 5-7 overall.

Although the Bishops did not make the state tournament, they showed many teams in the state that we were just as good as
those on the top.
