THE METEOR
Good Ti•nes In Lynchburg
A new year has started, and with a new year, there comes new boys; boys fi-om Lynchburg,
fromVirginia, fromNorthC~ !ina, and even from Ardmore, Ok. On Thursday, September 8, thanks to the help of the counse-
lors and many faculty, the new boys began a successful orienta- tion. The 95 new boys (28 day, 66 boarding), identical to last year's
has boosted the enrollment to 266 over last year's 26.'i. The old boys arrived on Fri-
day in time for registration and other orientation enjoyment. Classes got underway on Satur- day and orientation finally ended on Sunday with athletic sign-ups. ·Everyone is anxious to get
underway after a long summ~r. and it looks like a great year is now beginning.
New boys, fear not. Old boys, worry no more. Lynchburg is not boring. For those of you who came expecting tO pass all week looking at the newly painted walls of your dorm room, ponder no further. The
Meteor has come to give some helpful hints about the weekend blues. With the VES bus running on Friday and Saturday nights, the town bus cruising the streets most of the day and night, and various taxi services available at all times, transportation is no problem.
One of t he biggest attractions is River Ridge Mall, easily accessible by bus. Various places to eat (Maxi's, Giovanni's, Charlie's, Sword & Kilt) are great combinations with a good movie at one of four cinemas. The Record Bar, Spencer's and other shops provide plenty of opportunity to rid yourself of excess money.
Boonsboro Shopping Center, a mere two miles from the VES campus offers such delicacies as a sub shop, Emil's, and movie cinemas and a very thorough arcade. Pittman Plaza also offers four cinemas and various other stores and shops, in.cluding a record
"exchange. These malls are only a small part of Lynchburg. Downtown of the Hill City and other parts contain at least one thing to please each person.
The activities calendar on Second Jett can be of·great assistance al•o. VES and other fellow schools often sponsor mixers and d~ces.
So, if 7ou feel as if your favorite pasttime is wearing down the lumber of your de k-ehair, get out and around; the town is waiting.
