On October 8, 1985 the VES community attended the funeral of Jo1eph Kentworth Banke at the Firat Preebyterian Church on YES Road. it is quite unusual for an entire 1tudent body to

joyed wood carving. The skillful- ,Jy carved lectum and the
decorative archway in the rear of the chapel were both carved with Jove by him. It is incredible that both his working time and leisure time were to the advan-
tage of VES.
When Mr. Banks retired from
VES he continued to show his love for the school. He regularly sent birthday cards to all stu- dents who celebrated birthdays during the school year. He also
attended VES graduations and other school functions reguarly. After his retirement, he spent some years as a resident at West- minster Canterbury. His Jove for
the students was evident with his display of a single piece of whit paper posted in the win dow of his sixth floor apartment

readings, and his refreshments were a VES institituion. His nearby farm "Tennessenca" has
always been available to VES boys, and many have found it to be a welcome respite from the
rigors of daily life at the school. During his leisure time he en-

institution is an awesome responsibility which Mr. Banks naturally fulfilled. We might associate a quote from The
