TENNIS
The V.E.S. varsity tennis
team is on the road to rebuilding. After a very strong 9-2 season last year, five out of the top eight
players graduated. This year, fourteen players tried out but Coach Foster will only keep eight. Charles Davis played first
seed last year and should be a much stronger player this year.
Coach Foster notes that seniors Rick Gayle and David Thorpe, who were sick last year, are also playing well. Then there is John Foster,Jr.whoiscomingupfrom last year's J.V. team and Sean
Thrash, who is in his first year and is hitting the ball very well. The team's opener is Friday, April 4 at home against Blue Ridge.

TRACK
This year's spring track team,
few in number and inexperienc- ed, will have to rely on a small group of veterans and a few newcomers for points and leader· ship. Coach Bloor notes that Rob Archie, Jim Battle, all-round
threat Mike George and pole
vaulter Brian Rash should carry
their winter success into the
warmer months. In the field

events, 'tiny' Matt Brandon adds depth as a discus thrower. Coach Bloor bas even extended an open invitation to anybody in
