Student Council News by Charles Watson, faculty
Sunday November 7, the 1993-1994StudentCouncil met for the first time. The Faculty Advisor to the Student Coun- cil, Sarah Josephs, opened the meeting with a couple of ice- breaking training exercises in cooperative work and group decision making. After a break for Sunday evening chapel the Student Coucil then reconvened
to do more serious business including procedural matters within the council, discussion and adoption of a few bylaws, and discussion of class projects. The final piece of business was to elect a chairman for the coun- cil body. Doug Finlay '93 has been elected to that position; Terry Hershner '93, will serve as vice-chairman.

Charles Daniel by Ford Craven
There's a new teacher on campus that's bringing new ideas and a new atmosphere to VES. His name is Mr. Daniel.
Mr. Charles Daniel has lived in Lynchburg for his entire life. He attended E.C. Glass High School and from there went to Washington and Lee University.

Model Organization of American States
by Pierre Mortemousque, facu lty advisor Once again a delegation
from VES represented the school at the national assem- bly of Model OAS in Washington D.C. This year we represented Antigua and Barbuda. We will leave Lynch- burg on the 17th of November and return on the 20th. Our head delegate this year is Michele Mason and the rest of our delegation is formed by the following students:
Michelle Phillips

New Faces continued from p. 1 and the "great working atmo-
sphere," she has found at VES. Although this is her first year here, this isn't the first time she has worked in a school setting. After attending Lynchburg College, where she got her BA in education, and later her M.Ed. in counseling, she began working in the admission department. While she worked there she did such things as recruiting and inter- viewing. She also organized an alumni program for the college. While working at Lynchburg College she got to work closely with non-tradi- tional students which was an experience that she treasures
deeply.

I am extremely pleased with the performance of our delegation this year and although we had less time to prepare we were ready to re- present Antigua and Barbuda.
Mrs. Gratten was told of the job opening at VES by her friend, Mary Feagans, special events coordinator for VES. She enjoys the job and is glad she got it because it gives her a chance to work and still have time to be with her two daughters, Brooke age ten, Abbey age eight, and her hus- band Henry who is a sales
living where he's teaching because of the atmosphere. He feels he has a greater impact on a student's life if he is a part of it.
The material he teaches is in some way related to life because it makes our world eas- ier to understand. Mr. D. enjoys getting to see his students and hanging out with them, and getting to know them better.
He feels that being a new teacher here is very time con- suming and involves more work but the rewards are much greater because of it.
Since he is living at school he gets to see his students increase intelligently and look back on how much good his teaching has accomplished.
Welcome to VES, Mr. Daniel.
