battled right down to the wire by the fighting Bishops to cinch the game when they took possession of the ball with only 20 seconds remaining to be played, but Cullen Bradley, not rea- lizing the game was neorly over, shot and missed. Bernie Peterson grabbed the ball and dribbled the length of the court to knot the score.
V. E. S., already playing without the services of their stellar guard, Joe Crute, and forward Jack Stoughton received a killing blow in the second quarter when Howie Pitt, 6 foot 4 inch center sprained his ankle.
The Bishops, led by Dick Carring- ton who garnered 17 points to lead all scorers, and Jim Winston who con- tinually took rebounds out of the hands of his brawnier opponents served notice that they are not to be counted out of the state prep school title race by any means.

defeated in state prep circles, were

the defense couldn't seem to solve the fast break being used by the Tigers.
V. E. S. forged ahead in the first quarter with Howie Pitt leading the way. However, the tide turned in the second period and the Bishops found themselves unable to keep pace with the inspired W oodberry aggregation. Dick Carrington, star guard, was lost on personal fouls in the third quarter, as was Jim Win- ston. The loss of these two dealt a stunning blow to the V. E. S. team, and ruined any chance it might have had of overtaking the Tigers. For in the third quarter, the Bishops pulled to within four points of the Bengals, only to see Woodberry again widen the gap when Winston and Carring- ton were sent to the bench. Pitt paced the V. E. S. scorers with 14 points, and tied for second place in the scoring race with Dick Spangler, of Woodberry.
Steve Meilinger contributed I0 points and was top rebound man for the cadets.
