J. V. Basketball By Phil Braxton
The 15 and under basketball team has started the season off with a bang. Out of three starts the Junior Bishop cagers have dropped only one and are a good bet for the city championship. Chauncy Hutter has led the team ill scoring while putting twenty-eight in the hoop. Other standouts thus far are Dick W ebster, guard; Brant Snavely, forward; Fritz Wulf, guard; and Fred Schilling, cen- ter. The entire team is doing fine under the management of Mr. Daw- son and should progress as the season continues.
The 17 and under has started the season off with a 2-2 win-lose record. The J. V.'s under Mr. Phelps and led by Duke Taliaferro have won over W est End and the Mighty Mites. Britt, Barlow, and Creasy are also standouts in the lineup. The squad is improving and should do very well before the season closes. Here's wishing success to both J . V. teams from The Meteor.

Through the Telescope
By the Old Astrologer
Drip . .. Drip! The Old Astrologer listens drowsily in his bed to Caro- lina dew, coming down like cats and dogs, and, with a yawn, pictures its usual continuance to Lynchburg . . . Lynchburg!! With a frightened glance, he looks up to the calendar, disgustedly rips off December, which somehow slipped his mind on New
Year's Eve, then saw it was just about

time to rip off January, too. And with a moan of anguish, he realized he'd neglected his task of keeping a watchful eye on dear, dry V. E. S. He hated to think what might've happened to those little boys.
So seeing the uselessness in further slumber, he leaps out of bed and .. . who-o-ops, CRASH! May Allah's ten thousand curses rain on that blasted Budweiser's bottle! Muttering thus, he picks himself up, limps over to his high chair, still splotched with little remembrances of the New Y ear's celebration , and starts to sit down, but rubbing his .. . er, himself, he decides against it, all the while cool- ing the poor defenseless bottle with a flood of rather unladylike utter- ances.
Brushing the dust from his ancient tube, he squints in, turns, and . . . ah-h-h, there we go. He eyes the
160 acres tenderly, looking-but where is everybody? They' re ail where they wasn't, except, yes, there's the "Nose," still reigning over Jimmy "The Big Question" Battle. And the "Quaint-one" remains in his ac- customed domain, never ceasing in his vigilance on Shirley 's Sanatarium. And the old boy sees that the "Blind One" hasn't moved, either, and notices-yes, he's gotten his daily double from Alexandria. But not one to peek, our ancient friend glances up (and then down again), and reads, "Dear John: . . . Darling, you 've got to start concentrating more on your work, and less on . . .",and he graci- ously looks elsewhere.
He spies, on the junk pile, a list of unused, and long-forgotten Resolu- tions for '50. (Hmm, he thinks, this looks interesting, and reads.) Markley, the Cough Drop King, resolved to

buy up Ludens to add to his sugar- coated empire. Pero has finally de- cided to stop making female ac- quaintances.
"Turned Down" Duke concludes that Herndon isn't on his map, and Crookshag seems to think "T. D.'s" conclusion is a good one. The Hop Committee decided to swear off dances, and the Hotelling brothers decided to swear off each other. Tho Mighty Tom-Tom finally gave up mir- rors because they reminded him of Mighty Jo Young.
And with a sigh, and a thought of sympathy for his readers, the Old Star-Gazer resolves to write less this year, and feels it's time to start right here. So, so long, fellow slaves io
