THE METEOR
TH I
Harris Coaches Team To Narrow Field Day Win
GOLF , 1964
The V.E.S. divot digging gentry, hampered by roin, short practice sea- son, the injury and subsequent lost of number one man, Gary Hylton, strug- gled to a record of two wins againsf four losses this year. Despite the record, the Bishops linksmen put in some fine performances and put up several good fights.
When three matches were post- poned because of rain at the first of the season, mony people wondered if C1 match would ever be played. The first to be played was with E. C. Glass a t Oakwood Country Club and ended in defeat for the Bishops 18-9. Bate Crudup was the outstanding performer of the day.
The Brookville match marked the first victory, 22-5, in which match Hugh Morrison shined. The Bishops traveled to Orange, Va. with hopes of defeating a strong Woodberry team but were out classed 150-20. In a close match with Patrick Henry at the Roanoke Country Club the V.E.S. linksmen again fell victim to a well-rounded team where the out- come was uncertain until the last fore-

160. Morrison again played well. Glass came to Boonsboro and the Bishops got sweet revenge to the tune of the score 22-5. George Teague turned in the best round of the match, 77. The final match of the season was at home with G. W. of Danville. This well-rounded team found the bishops no pushover with the score ending 180-80. Hugh Morrison again played well turning in by far the best round of the season, 75.
Throughout the season there was constant competition within the team for the different positions. This is what makes a good golf team, and every boy profits from this type of system.
It should be noted that only Crudup und Teague will be lost be- cause of graduation. Back again to "chase" the little white ball will be H ylton, Morrison, Jim Morris, Pete Bidwell, Joe Patton, and Mike Don- ovan. Thanks should b e given to Mr. Tom Wright for his time and in- terest given to the golf team.
George Harris couched his team to a 71-70 victory over Scott Shank- lin in the annual V.E.S. Field Day. Kell Gay was high scorer for the win- ners with thirteen points collected by running first in the hundred, second in the two-twenty, and winning the broad jump. Second place honors wenttoBillCarperwhoscoredtwelve points by winning the high and low hurdles and pl~cing third in the shot. Bucky Harris and David Wooten were high scorers for "Super Shank" with eleven end a quarter points apiece.
George Teague won the mile in 5:12.4 and placed second in the eighty-eighty behind Logan Forsyth. Frank Mora won the quarter mile in 58.9. 'Shanklin's team dominated the
