A VALIANT EFFORT FOR ~~wiLD" BUT THE STUDENTS WON 16-7
TENNIS, 1964
The tennis team had a very chal- lenging schedule in its first year as a varsity sport. Despite its 0 and 9 ·ecord, the squad played very well ~gains+ outclassed teams. Mr. Crox- son did his usual great job in his final year of coaching tennis. Lost from ast year were Charlie Lee, Jim De- 1oon, Erskine Bowles, and Bill Bate-
man. Returning players were Rip Woodin, Gene Elliott, and Pat Law- son, playing numbers one, two, and four singles on the team. New rank- ing people on the team were John Court, number three, Scott Lindsay, number five, and Mike Sheble and Monty White, number six. Number one doubles team was Woodin and Lawson, number two, Court and Elliott, ond number three, Lindsay and Sheble. The netmen were blanked twice by the number two team in the state, E. C. Glass, twice by Patrick Henry, and once by the W & L Fresh- men. The two matches with George Washington of Danville were unsuc-
cessful with losses o f 8-1 a n d 6-3. The best-played match of the season was with Collegiate, but once again the Bishop netters lost, 5-4. In the final match the team was defeated 8-1 by St. Christophers of Rich- mond.
Prospects for next year's team are bright, with many juniors and sopho- mores returning.
