b'HEADSCORNERDear GDS Community,Happy New Year!I am humbled and proud to be your new Head of School. Since arriving at Greensboro Day School, I have witnessed the tremendous value of a GDS education and the power of our learning community. For 49 years, the school has graduated smart, ready-for-whats-next, young adults and launched them all over the country and, eventually, all over the world. Some return to Greensboro and find a multitude of ways to rejoin their school. Others keep the school in their hearts as they pursue their careers taking time to remain connected, via social media, email, or visits to campus. We started the school year full steam ahead and kicked-off the semester with the 50th Anniversary Celebration, the highest new student enrollment in five years, and the addition of two-year-olds! We finalized the Strategic Plan, accepted an invitation to join three other independent schools for a professional development partnership at the School of St. Jude in Arusha, Tanzania, enrolled students in a new pilot program with Wake Forest University, hosted an honor code training for middle and upper school students from across North Carolina, and joined the Global Online Academy - an opportunity to engage in collaboration with leading independent schools around the world. Ultimately, it was a semester of teaching and learning leading to tremendous growth and opportunity. As we begin the second semester we are excited to build on our progress as individuals and as a school. We will continue to learn and grow together, building relationships that no doubt, will last a lifetime. I invite you to learn more about whats next for GDS at The State of the School, on January 21, 2020 - a chance to hear from me about the 2020-2023 Strategic Plan and my vision for the future of GDS. Please join us in the Sloan Theatre, at 7 p.m. You can read more about the program online at greensboroday.org/sots. As we move further into the spring semester, we will celebrate our teachers, learn about college acceptances, plan curriculum and classes for the next school year, graduate the Class of 2020,and continue to celebrate our 50th year. I hope you will join me on campus for our culmination celebration on May 2, 2020, Studio 50. I look forward to connecting, reconnecting, and celebrating with many of you on May 2!Greensboro Day School is on the move because of YOU, and I thank you for your support in moving Greensboro Day School forward. With Bengal Pride,Tracie CatlettHead of School'
