the new performance gymnasium and student commons. On April 22, 2016,
more than 200 members of the Cor Jesu and St. Louis communities, along with
students, faculty and staff, celebrated the groundbreaking of the $10 million,
39,400-square-foot building.
Leading the festivities were 60 alumnae, who represented their gradu-
ating classes in a special procession at the liturgy. Fr. Chris Collins, S.J.
celebrated the liturgy and blessed the land. And serving as the honorary
ground-breakers were Cor Jesu Advisory Council Chair Tina Burniski Klocke
’78; Dean of Curriculum & Professional Development Jeanne Suda; Student
Council President Maureen Reilly ’16; MO State Senator, District 1 Scott
Sifton; President of Hastings + Chivetta Chris Chivetta; Project Director of
S. M. Wilson Company Kort Cole; Former Provincial Superior of the Apos-
tles Sr. Anne Walsh, ASCJ; former CJ Principal Sr. Kathleen Mary Coonan,
ASCJ; and President Sr. Barbara Thomas, ASCJ.
Slated to be completed by Fall 2017, the new building will also fea-
ture innovative classrooms designed to foster leadership development,
including the Center for Law and Leadership. In addition, 57 new park-
ing spaces have been added to the west side of campus, adjacent to the
existing parking lot in the back. New roadwork extending along the front
of the new gym and commons will run along the west side of campus
to the back circle drive and end where the new parking lot begins. Soon Fr. Chris Collins, S.J. blessed the land, where the new gym and commons
will be built.

pleted, plans will begin for the new chapel, which will be located in front
of the current gym (see the rendering on page 6).
