b'A Season Lost MIDDLE SCHOOL FALL SPORTSBy Maddy Howard 20 Middle School Girls Tennis (10-2)Coachs Award: Lucie Noone 25MVP: Mary Marshall Rankin 25Stepping on the field for my first girls soccer practice of senior year felt like a surrealMiddle School Cross Country experience. I have watched so many girlsCoachs Award: Aio Rosario 26graduate and pass on their leadership roles toCoachs Award: Ethan Shearer 24up and coming seniors and finally it was myMVP: Lucy Eggleston 26turn. Having only three seniors certainly kept the pressure up during practices and warmupsMiddle School Volleyball Gold(4-4)to make sure we were leading by example. From day oneCoachs Award: Hayden Lowe 25of varsity girls soccer, I have envisioned my senior seasonMVP: Alana McGill 26and every little detail. Whether it was competing for a conference title, playing my last home game on the GDSMiddle School Volleyball Green (6-11)field, or walking across center field to receive my flowersCoachs Award: Isabella Sadjewski 24and plaque on senior night, I never could have imaginedMVP: Tilley Lie-Nielsen 24having these things stripped away. Losing my senior season has been more than just the absence of games, practice,Middle School Boys Soccer Gold (3-4)and senior night. Although these things are important ICoachs Award: Luke Anderson 26miss every aspect of school soccer and all the memories ICoachs Award: Nayehl Khan 26was unable to make my last year at GDS. From late-nightBest Offensive Player: Jack Anderson 27bus rides with the team with everyone yelling over one another, fun practices before a long weekend, and even the sprints we had to do whenever we were distracted duringMiddle School Boys Soccer Green (6-7-2)practice, I miss it all and am definitely grieving this loss. Coachs Award: Roshan Sood 26MVP: Turner Pierce 25Im grateful we had part of a season so that I was able to meet the younger players and Im confident the juniors will continue to set a high standard during next years season. The devastation I have felt throughout this pandemic cannot truly be put into words, losing prom, graduation, and my senior season are such huge milestones I had hoped to hit with the lifelong friends I have made. Despite not having any of the traditional soccer season events the coaches and players did plan a makeshift senior night for Caroline, Noel, and me. Although I did not walk across center field with my parents, the younger players brought posters, flowers, and gifts as a surprise for each of us to thank us for our time on the soccer team. Even though the last time I stepped off the GDS field was not on my terms, that is not the memory I will hold onto. Instead, I will forever remember my encouraging coaches, spirited teammates, and deep love of the game.42 | Summer 2020'
