2018 Commencement Speaker: Nana Coleman ’94, M.D., M.Ed.

Her success in Cor Jesu’s biology class came down to one lesson: in order to pass the
class, Nana Coleman was required to dissect the frog sprawled before her. Suffice to
say, the 1994 graduate – now a medical doctor – did as instructed. And that “frog mo-
ment,” as she referred to it, was one of many life lessons that has carried her along her
journey. The 2018 commencement keynote speaker shared with the CJ graduates how
unknowing and trepidation can evolve into enlightenment because of their CJ experi-
ence. “Each and every [student] has the same dream…to be part of the singular, trans-
formative, intellectual, spiritual and personal journey, which is Cor Jesu Academy.”
Nana was born in Ghana, attended nine years of Catholic grade school at Our Lady
of Good Counsel that was in Bellefontaine Neighbors, graduated from Cor Jesu, and
is now a medical doctor, specializing in critical care and anesthesiology. She also is an
assistant dean and assistant professor at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Chil-

of Curriculum & Professional Development of “God’s abiding, abundant blessings.” With the Sacred Heart as their guiding force,
