The Silent Walk for Peace, Tolerance and Unity was held in partnership with the Student Diversity Leadership Council (SDLC) on Thursday, September 28 in Keeley Commons after school. As a group, participants walked three times around the quad, once for peace, once for unity, and once for tolerance while holding a blue balloon to represent the color of peace. Following the walk, everyone expressed how they intend to uphold key principles of the GDS Diversity Statement by writing their pledge statements on poster boards. This was a way to reinforce a positive tone for the school year and remind everyone that Greensboro Day School is a welcoming, peaceful, and tolerant environment. Madison Head ’19 helped organize this event along with the SDLC. The students raised $428 to purchase food and school supplies for the Houston class. The 5th graders made detailed shopping lists and came up with budgets for each item, then took a field trip to pick out and purchase the supplies. Items are now on their way to Houston to help these families. Pictured left to right: Adair Wood ’23, Mae Moody ’23, Alexandra Green ’23, Claire McDowell ’23, and Anna Lewis ’23.
