leadership and wisdom to the Board as Chair of our Committee on Trustees, guiding the Board through the process of selecting new Trustees and of monitoring progress toward our Board goals and toward the goals of the Head of School. Dr. Kyle Young serves as Chair of our Building and Grounds Committee, leading the Board’s critical work of maintaining and enhancing our physical campus. Marshall Tuck chairs the vital and extensive work of our Finance Committee, also serving as Board Treasurer in this capacity. Finally, we are thrilled to be joined this year by the newest members of our Board – Parents’ Association President Isabelle Kramme; current parents Lois Chen, Tyler Richardson and Brad Hayes; past faculty member and past parent Linda Sloan; and past parents Wes Elingburg and Andy Scott. The wisdom and leadership of this group brings great energy to our Board. I am grateful for the dedicated work of all our Trustees, an outstanding group of parents, past parents, grandparents, and leaders in our educational community and in our larger community. It is a testament to this group, to the leadership of Mark Hale and his administrative team, and to our outstanding faculty and families that Greensboro Day School continues to thrive as the premier educational institution in our area. Sincerely, David Brown Chair, Board of Trustees parent of Emily ’17, Mary ’19 and Anna ’22. LETTER FROM THE CHAIR Dear GDS Community: It is an exciting time to be involved with Greensboro Day School! As we enter our 48th year, our School stands on a proud legacy of achievement and of service to our community of students, families, faculty, administrators, and alumni, as well as a history of service both locally and around the world. Our students have the benefit and privilege of a financially strong institution, a wonderful campus, and the resources necessary for the kinds of learning, creative thinking, and growth needed to be constructive contributors to the world. The Board of Trustees is dedicated to building on this legacy for even greater growth in the future. Much of the work of our Board is done through our Board-level committees, and we are extremely fortunate to have the following outstanding group of committee chairs for this school year: Dr. Matthew Olin ’89 leads our Advancement Committee, and the work of this Committee includes supporting our Annual Fund, enhancing our endowment, and supporting the work of our Parents’ Association. Harley Garrison chairs our Audit Committee, working to ensure that GDS maintains its long history of financial and regulatory compliance. Lynn Callicott Baranski ’84 returns as the chair of our Investment Committee and continues to provide wonderful leadership to the important work of ensuring the long-term security and growth of our endowment funds. Jack Whitley, after completing his service as Chair of the Board, graciously continues to offer his GDS Magazine | 3
