THE CHARLES McLENDON Founders Society For more information about planning a gift to Greensboro Day School, visit www.greensboroday. org/plannedgiving, or contact Tommy Webb, Associate Head of Advancement and Personnel (336) 288-8590, ext. 204. The Charles McLendon Founders Society recognizes those individuals who have made provisions for GDS in their estate plans. Such provisions may take the form of a bequest, the designation of GDS as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy, the establishment of a charitable trust with GDS as the beneficiary, the assignment of a title to a primary residence or other planned - gift arrangement. Gifts are designated or restricted according to the donor’s wishes. Most often, donors choose to direct planned-estate gifts to the School’s permanent endowment, or to provide their own named-endowment fund for a specific purpose. Membership in the McLendon Society is a special distinction, signaling the donor’s understanding that the future of the Day School is a priority now in planning for the ultimate gift upon their death. It is a lifelong commitment to the School’s future welfare. Because of the great variety of gift vehicles and giving opportunities available, donors can make a very personal statement about their care and concern for the children who attend the school. WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE? By Tommy Webb Aspire. Achieve. Advance. Nearly fifty years ago, a group of thoughtful and generous families proposed and eventually created Greensboro Day School. They dreamed, they planned, and they started this independent school with an initial operating budget of slightly more than $100,000, twelve teachers, several administrators, and 90 students. Today in its 48th year, the campus is beautiful, the buildings are impressive, and the faculty is fortunate to have the support to pursue professional growth in order to be vibrant, stimulated, and enthusiastic about their teaching and learning. Endowments make the difference each and every year as they fund workshops and experiences around the region, the nation, and the world. Soon we will all celebrate our Golden Anniversary, our 50th year as an independent school, and as a maturing institution, Greensboro Day School will be enriched by significant planned gifts from our founders and other generations of donors. Consider joining our McLendon Society by offering part of your estate to Greensboro Day School in the form of a bequest, an insurance beneficiary, or a recipient of a trust. Most designations will create endowments that will make the difference for generations to come. Visit our giving pages on our website www.greensboroday.org/endowments.org. Endowments are listed with details on how they support our programs, our students, and our faculty. GDS Magazine | 37
