From mid-June to mid-August, when many schools are quiet, more than 700 children were on the campus of Greensboro Day School for another amazing summer of Greensboro Day School Summer Programs. GDS offered camps for all ages, starting at age three through high school. The UNCG Men’s Basketball Camp, led by Coach Wes Miller, proved to be a popular choice once again for the sports minded camper, and we also provided the opportunities for campers to participate in tennis, soccer, golf, Taekwondo, and horseback riding. Our varsity cheerleaders led Lower School-aged children in a cheer camp that concluded with a performance of cheers and a dance. We also enjoyed two fabulous performing-arts productions this year. The rising 3rd through 5th graders performed a Disney rendition: The Movies - The Music, and the older students in rising 6th through 9th grades put on Peter Pan, Jr. It is always impressive to see what these amazing children and teachers can put together in only one week! Everywhere you looked on campus was bustling with activity, from making duct- tape creations, to cooking with colors, or studying Greek and Roman mythology. We had the opportunity to explore the world of prehistoric creatures during our two weeks of dinosaur camps. Mountain Bike Camp taught children how to ride their bikes safely while having fun, and how to work on the mechanics of their bikes, while learning maintenance. The creations from our budding artists in pottery camp continue to amaze each and every year. “Checkmate” could be heard throughout the halls as some mastered the game of chess. Finally, the excitement from students who love to create was noted during Lego camp as they watched their designs come to life. If you are interested in great summer camps with a variety of unique opportunities, look no further than the Greensboro Day School Summer Programs with all of our fabulous instructors. Planning for Summer 2018 is underway, and we look forward to announcing the schedule by February. Thank you to every family who allowed us to teach your children. All of our programs are designed to develop critical thinking, improve creativity, and most importantly, give children the opportunity to “be a kid.” For more information on Summer Programs at Greensboro Day School, please visit www.greensboroday.org/summer or contact Director of Summer Programs, Holly Hofbauer ’92 at hollyhofbauer@greensboroday.org By Holly Barnes Hofbauer ’92, Director of Summer Programs AT GREENSBORO DAY SCHOOL Summer Programs 26 | Winter 2017
