If you know someone who you believe would be an asset to our board, please email their name to us and tell us why you think they would be a good addition to our board. ALUMNI BOARD MEMBER NOMINATIONS ARE NOW BEING ACCEPTED. ALUMNINEWS In my opinion, Greensboro Day School is the BEST school in the Triad! Many others will agree. If you are reading this, I hope you do too! If you’ve been on the new website recently, you’ll see “Greensboro Day School provides the most dynamic, comprehensive pre-K through 12 grade academic environment in the Triad.” Those that work here know and say it’s the best. We don’t say GDS is the best school because we are arrogant or pompous. We say it is the best because we believe it. We believe this because of the stories that the students and teachers share from their experience at GDS. For example, at a basketball game this winter, I saw multiple kindergartners sitting amongst the varsity cheerleaders, wanting to imitate their every move. And our wonderful cheerleaders loved having them there and teaching them their moves! How many schools offer the opportunity for the PK-12 experience and cross divisional opportunities for our students to connect and impact one another? Very few. A similar story happened in January when GDS Alumnus, John Ball ’17, showed up to campus during his winter break to eat lunch and spend time with his Bengal Buddy, Charlie Thompson ’29. The smile on Charlie’s face when John showed up was priceless and it reminds us all about the impact that we have on each other during our time on the campus of Greensboro Day School. These are just two examples how ways in which GDS offers the most dynamic and comprehensive PK through 12th grade academic environment. I could go on for hours and I suspect that you have your own memories and experiences from your time here, whether that time was 13 years or only one. During Alumni Weekend, I was reminded of the impact this school has on its students. Again, I heard stories and memories from alumni that solidified how grateful they were of the foundation they received at Greensboro Day School. As you read this, we are just 1 year away from the beginning of the 2019-2020 academic year, in which we will celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary. Over the next year, I hope you will think back to your time at GDS and share with us those special moments. This will help us as we plan to celebrate our past and present, while preparing for our future. Once A Bengal, Always A Bengal! Michael Sumner ’04 Director of Alumni Programs
