We believe that the ongoing professional development of our faculty is of critical importance in providing our students a strong HEAD’S CORNER academic and social environment in which to learn. And, as you flip through the pages, you will notice just a few of the opportunities that our faculty members have taken advantage of such as Tim Martin’s travels to Iceland as a National Geographic Grosvenor Fellow, the Leadership Edge for Girls training taken by Kristen Tuma and Bridget Gwinnett at the Center for Creative Leadership, and descriptions of the many TEEF grants that are awarded to faculty each year. In addition to our faculty attending conferences and workshops off campus, we also provide professional learning opportunities for teachers on campus. One example was the Ethics Leadership Conference that we hosted with many of the sessions led by our own faculty. This conference grew out of our Excellence in Ethics Award and several years of work led by our Character and Ethics committee and the leader of our counseling department, Michelle Bostian. Other articles include news about our alumni, athletics and student accomplishments along with the important work that we are doing in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and in the arts with the addition of the only wood fired kiln found on a PreK - 12 school campus in the Triad. The breadth and depth of activities truly provides a multitude of events taking place across campus at any one time. These programs help make up the “harmony” of the school as we all participate in different ways, adding to the collective voice of GDS. I am proud of the academic strength of our programs, the professional learning opportunities provided to our staff, and the incredible facilities in which our students learn and the character and leadership programs we offer. Take a moment to read through the pages of this edition of our magazine, and I believe that you will join me in knowing why, thanks to our dedicated faculty and the joyful, caring and trustworthy community they provide our students each and every day, Greensboro Day School continues to be the educational leader in the Triad.
