The Girls Leadership Edge (GLE) is a program developed by the Women’s Professional Forum Foundation, Inc. (WPFF) in collaboration with the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL). The program is intended for girls ages 13 to 15 and is designed to provide them with the foundation for being lifelong leaders through emphasis on Courage, Confidence and Compassion. Three Greensboro Day School seniors were announced as 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalists. John Ball, Emily Brown, and Emily Dean are three of the 16,000 students recognized. Semifinalists placed in the top one percent of U.S. high school seniors who took the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). Four Greensboro Day School seniors were announced as Commended students in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. These students include Matthew Amend, Dylan Boles, Lindsey Cooke, and Davis Dunham. Commended students placed in the top five percent of more than 1.6 million students who took the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). Upper and Middle School students along with faculty and staff signed their name during Honor Code ceremonies, upholding the oath, “To foster a community of trust and respect, I pledge that I will not lie, cheat or steal, or accept the actions of those who do.” The Honor Code has been in place at Greensboro Day School for 32 years with the signing ceremony for 15 years. The Lower and Middle School held a Coat Drive this fall, collecting 120 coats that were distributed to Peck Elementary School families. Thank you to all who donated coats to those in need. Greensboro Day School provides Teacher Enrichment Endowment Funds (TEEF) to deserving teachers to participate in professional development and training opportunities. This Endowment started in 1980 and is funded annually through the Parents’ Association major fundraisers.
